Definition: It describes the ongoing moment in the present.

Example: She is speaking on the phone.

Helping Verbs: Is/am/are

Sentence structure

  • Positive = Subject + is/am/are + Present participle + Object
  • Negative = Subject + is not/am not/are not + Present participle + Object
  • Interrogative = is/am/are + Subject + Present participle + Object
  • Negative Interrogative = isn’t/am not/aren’t + Subject + Present participle + Object?

Positive Sentences

  • I am playing video games.
  • She and I are doing our homework.

Negative Sentence

  • They aren’t cleaning up their rooms.
  • He isn’t studying at this moment.

Interrogative Sentences

  • Am I coming to visit you?
  • Are they traveling to an Asian country?
  • Am I going with you?

Interrogative Sentences with (questions word)

  • Why is she doing this to us?
  • Where are they going tomorrow?

Negative Interrogative Sentences

  • Isn’t she dancing to the Calm Down song?
  • Aren’t Julia and her husband going to the party?
